Comparison of the Two Methods PSI and CURLI in Material Selection for Gear Manufacturing

Many articles written to compare different multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods were carried out. The comparison of PSI and CURLI methods is performed in this article. These are two methods that share the same feature that there is no need to determine the weights for criteria. The processes of selecting materials to manufacture three types of gears including light-loaded gears, heavy-loaded gears and medium-loaded gears are problems that were used to compare the two methods mentioned above. In each case, the number of alternatives, the number of criteria and types of criteria (the larger the better, the smaller the better) were chosen differently. Different scenarios to compare these two methods were also performed in each case. All obtained results show that PSI and CURLI methods are equally effective in determining the best material.
