Distance Approximation and Dynamic Obstacle Motion Prediction using Stereo Vision

This paper explores the development of a system for visually impaired skiers, aiming to enable them to participate in individual skiing competitions independently, as they currently rely on guides. Although research is focused on visually impaired athletes, this research can be widely used in mobile robotics. Inspired by human vision, the project utilizes stereo vision with two cameras to recognize objects, estimate distances, and predict their movement. The goal is to replace the guide's role with audio signals, providing visually impaired skiers with independence in navigating between gates. This proof of concept has potential applications in various situations and industries, offering possibilities for further development.
