Coherent HRRP Ranging Algorithm With Signal Domain Kalman Smoother for Wideband Radar

Due to the high speed and maneuverability of orbital targets, the traditional envelope ranging method faces issues of unreal-time processing and weak robustness in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) owing to the lack of dechirp coherent processing. This letter proposes a sequential envelope coherent ranging method. The algorithm establishes a high-speed motion target signal model for dechirp processing. Then, it combines Doppler compensation and sequential envelope ranging to compensate echoes to obtain a high-resolution range profile, realizing the coherent recovery of echo and high precision ranging. Besides, Kalman smoother is introduced to improve the accuracy of the initial state estimation of sequential filtering and accelerate tracking convergence. Simulated and real-measured experiments confirm its remarkable performance in the case of high-speed targets.
