Elegami:Tangible Interactive Picture Book for children with Multimodal Interaction

In recent years, there has been a growing interest among researchers in the field of educating children about electricity. However, introducing electrical knowledge during early basic education poses significant challenges. To address this issue, our study focuses on the design and development of a Tangible Interactive Picture Book specifically tailored for children aged 6-9 years old. By integrating electronic technology with the physical interaction provided by a pop-up book, we aim to enhance children’s understanding and learning of basic electrical concepts. Our design approach incorporates an adventure story, which presents electrical knowledge puzzles that can be solved through physical manipulation. This approach enables children to engage with and comprehend electricity more interactively. To evaluate the effectiveness of our product, we conducted a study involving 15 children within the target age group. The results revealed that the participants found our product, named "Elegami", to be more captivating compared to traditional science books, and they expressed higher levels of satisfaction. Consequently, Elegami effectively reduces the barriers to learning about electricity, facilitating an easier acquisition of basic electrical knowledge for preschoolers.
