Experimental Study on The Influence of Humidity on Corona Discharge on Overhead Ground Wires

Corona discharge phenomenon around the grounding wires affects the lightning shielding performance of transmission lines during thunderstorms. In the present study, simulation experiments have been carried out to study the influence of humidity on corona discharge characteristics of the overhead ground wire under thundercloud electric field. A plate-to-ground wire air gap has been aet up in a environmental chamber. The absolute air humidity was set to 10g/m3, 13g/m3 and 15g/m3. the corona current and UV image during corona discharge tests were recorded and compared in detail. Experimental and simulation results show that the increasing air humidity can weaken the corona discharge intensity along the ground wire.
