Design and Development of FPGA Based Acoustic Signal Measurement System for Space Applications

On orbit acoustic measurement provides precise parameters to structure designers for space system design. The paper presents Octave band filter based acoustic measurement solution for space applications. Any flight system has major constraints in handling radiation, extreme temperatures and therefore realized using space qualified components. Paper deals with implementation of FPGA based acoustic signal processing. Design, implementation, and testing aspects of the realized system are investigated. Different techniques to implement simultaneous measurement of more than one channel and configurability aspects of the developed system are discussed. Real time testing is carried out by realizing the system on Microsemi FPGA platform. Cut-off frequency of developed filter for each octave band is compared with therotical value.
