Design of a Portable, Customizable Device with GPS Integration to Track Location-Specific Realtime Outdoor PM2.5 Pollution Exposure

This work focuses on developing a portable, cus-tomizable device with GPS integration for tracking location-specific realtime outdoor PM2.5 exposure. The device is powered by a dedicated rechargeable 5V power supply, which is helpful for outdoor applications. A commercially available, low-cost laser-based PM sensor (PMS5003) is used to detect PM2.5 concentrations. Data is gathered and processed, then stored in a micro SD card. A standard PM meter (Temtop M2000) was used to calibrate the designed PM meter. The device also measures meteorological parameters such as temperature and relative humidity. The device has tested and analyzed seasonal variations of PM2.5 concentration in a particular location due to temperature and relative humidity. The device is carried by a bicycle, and data is collected. From those data, it is tested to identify the pollution hotspots and map street-level variations in PM2.5 concentration in a city.
