Comparative Study on the Performance of Microstrip Patch Antenna using Gold, Silver, and Copper as Radiating Surfaces

An analysis was conducted to evaluate the performance of an inset-fed microstrip patch antenna with different radiating surfaces. Substrate, Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 was used in the design, along with patch metals gold, silver, and copper. The gold patch material produced a return loss of −58.757 dB, a VSWR value of 1.002 at 27.01 GHz, and the highest bandwidth of 4.789 GHz at 26.891 GHz. During the measurements, the silver patch exhibited the highest bandwidth of 4.78 GHz. Copper, on the other hand, resulted in a return loss of −45.436 dB, a VSWR value of 1.01, and a bandwidth of 4.756 GHz. These results indicate that the antenna is well-matched to the gold radiating surface-based system and the impedance is properly tuned, showing the positive impact of our design for next-generation wireless applications.
