Implementation of a Wireless Mesh Network for Orienteering Monitoring

Characterized by complex organization on crucial terrains for the numerous competitors, Orienteering activities are facing formidable safety challenges during training and competitions sessions. A robust communication network is crucial need for Orienteering organization progress management and control, timely emergency treatment, and comprehensive data analysis. Referring to the Longley-Rice model, theoretical calculations for equipment selection and network coverage capacity of a Wireless Mesh Network were conducted. Feasibility of a two-tiered backbone-access network structure was validated through network design and communication capability test. The safety management level of the Orienteering events was enhanced obviously through Orienteering monitoring on the structure of a self-configuring Wireless Mesh Network. The athletics abilities of Orienteering candidates were improved significantly with the support of the data analysis obtained through Wireless Mesh Network.
