Design and Feasibility Study of PCB Coating Machine Driven by Giant Magnetostrictive Actuator

Aiming at the problems of unstable coating platform, imprecise spraying and inadequate spraying of conventional circuit board coating machine, a novel conceptual design for a PCB coating machine is proposed. This design is based on the implementation of a giant magnetostrictive actuator. The overview of the conceptual structure and working principle of theis new circuit board coater are introduced. Additionally, a preliminary feasibility study is conducted to evaluate the giant magnetostrictive actuator device of the coating machine. The obtained results demonstrate that the maximum output force of the giant magnetostrictive actuator can reach 53.7N, while the maximum output displacement can achieve 57µm within the applied current range of 0 to 2 A It is observed that both the output force and displacement exhibit a positive correlation with the input current at varying pre-pressures. when the current is between 0.5∼2.0A and the pre-pressure is 0, 100, 200N, the linearity between the output force and the input current is better, These findings validate the excellent controllable performance of the giant magnetostrictive actuator and demonstrate the feasibility of the design of PCB coating processing platform of the utilizing giant magnetostrictive actuator.
