Modeling the Formation Process of Non-Thermal Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma for Therapy of Dermatological Diseases

Currently, research in the field of plasma dermatology is actively pursued, as treatment of skin diseases with atmospheric pressure nonthermal plasma has several advantages over traditional methods, including being non-traumatic, maintaining long-term therapy results. The main objectives of the research are to determine the most optimal treatment modes and design apparatus nodes for plasma therapy. The impact of the localization of dermatological diseases and the parameters of the affected area, primarily the thickness, on the ozone production changes in the plasma of the barrier discharge was examined in the conducted research. Mathematical modeling of the discharge ignition system on the skin was performed within the framework of a two-dimensional model, taking into account a cylindrically symmetric task. The modeling process was designed to examine changes in the ozone mass fraction depending on changes in the dielectric permeability and thickness of the skin tissue. As a result, it was established that ozone production for ozone therapy is most effective in the interaction of the discharge with a thin layer of skin tissue with relatively higher dielectric permeability. This can be used in the treatment of atopic dermatitis, accompanied by the appearance of blisters on the skin of the hands, and in the treatment of acne on the face of adults and adolescents.
