Measurement of Radiation-Induced Conductivity of Alumina Material Under Steady-state X-Ray Irradiation

X-ray is a typical radiation environment, and the service life of essential equipment and systems in this environment will be significantly reduced. Due to their excellent electrical, thermal, mechanical, and physicochemical properties, Alumina materials are widely used in essential devices, such as electric vacuum devices. Radiation-induced conductivity is an important physical quantity for measuring the X-ray radiation effect of materials. Therefore, research on the X-ray radiation-induced conductivity measurement of alumina material is important for the reliable operation of essential equipment in radiation environments. Based on the principle of the two-electrode testing method, a steady-state X-ray radiation-induced conductivity measurement system is developed to test the conductivity of alumina materials under different X-ray dose rates, bias electric fields, and different distances between the sample and the X-ray tube. The results indicate that when the X-ray tube is turned on, the conductivity of the alumina sample will rapidly increase to
$10^{-14}-10^{-12}\Omega^{-1}\cdot \text{cm}^{-1}$
. Within the specified range, the steady-state and peak values of the radiation-induced conductivity are linearly positively correlated with the X-ray dose rate and negatively correlated with distance. As the bias electric field increases, the test results slowly decrease and then increase exponentially.
