Mapping Persistent Urban Heat Islands: A Decadal Study of Land Surface Temperature Pattern of Bhubaneswar

Climate change and urban development have led to the emergence of Urban Heat Islands (UHI), characterised by increased temperatures within urban environment compared to their surroundings. These UHI effects have wide-ranging consequences on human health, energy consumption, and the environment. This research investigates the persistent UHI phenomenon over a decade in Bhubaneswar, one of the oldest planned cities in the modern context. This research aims to understand UHI formation by comprehensively analysing UHI patterns and changes within urban environments. Advanced geospatial data analysis techniques and remote sensing technology are used to analyse UHI trends, spatial patterns, and persistence with urban development. The study focuses on a decade-long period, from 2013 to 2023, with implications to enhance comprehension of the complex interactions between urban environment and temperature dynamics through UHI frequency mapping. This study contributes to the scientific understanding of UHI and provides valuable insights for urban planning and climate adaptation strategies in rapidly growing cities.
