A Magnetic Adapter Realizing The Interoperability of Unipolar And Bipolar Coil

The unipolar and bipolar coils are the two most commonly utilized coil structures in wireless power transfer systems. However, when perfectly aligned, they become decoupled from each other, indicating their lack of interoperability. To address this issue, a magnetic adapter is proposed to achieve interoperability with both unipolar and bipolar coils. Using the magnetic adapter as the relay coil, the interoperation of the unipolar and bipolar coil is realized through the configuration of the magnetic adapter. Compared with the traditional methods to achieve interoperability, the proposed method does not need a special design for the transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx), reducing the volume and cost of the Tx and Rx. In addition, the Tx and Rx, which are not interoperable when aligned, can be interoperable after using the magnetic adapter which means that the utilization of existing facilities can be increased without any modifications. Mathematical models are established. An experimental prototype has been developed to validate the proposed system. The calculated and experimental results demonstrate that the system effectively enhances interoperability and exhibits significant potential for further advancement.
