The Case for the Simpler Cyber-Physical System

This paper argues for the design of simpler cyber-physical systems. Several factors motivate this case for simplicity: (1) improved performance, (2) reduced power requirements, (3) reduced costs, (4) reduced attack surface, and (5) the possibility to prove the entire design correct. As a proof of concept, we are building a networked sensor on top of the seL4 microkernel [1], and we hope to prove the entire system correctly implemented.
