Field Stack Lighting Driving Method for Low Power Organic Light Emitting Diode-on-Silicon Microdisplay

This paper proposes a field stack lighting (FSL) driving method and develops an OLED-on-silicon microdisplay with low power consumption employing this driving method. By modulating subfield luminance across time and magnitude dimensions, FSL generates linear weights. Compared with traditional analog amplitude modulation (AAM) and pulse width modulation (PWM), the FSL driving method significantly lowers power consumption and corrects grayscale inversion caused by luminance errors, thus enhancing display quality. Additionally, FSL driving method extends the lifetime of the OLED by inverting the OLED bias voltage. Experimental findings indicate a reduction in power consumption by 39.33% for FSL when contrasted with the PWM driving method, alongside an increase in lifetime of 4.2 times. In comparison with the AAM driving method, the smallest power consumption reduction of FSL being 57.15%.
