Switch Capacitor-Based Reduced Component 5-Level Boost Inverter

This work presents an optimized structure of switched capacitor-based 5-level inverter with boosting of output voltage. The proposed configuration employs a minimal quantity of switching components and a single capacitor to generate 5-level output voltage, achieving a diminished level of total harmonic distortion (THD). Employing sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique (SPWM) for generation of switching signals to actuate the semiconductor devices. Through the implementation of a specific switching approach, the proposed design of inverter successfully generates a 5-level output voltage (0, ±VDC, ±2VDC). The simulations were conducted on the MATLAB/Simulink environment, encompassing a reduced switch 5-level switched capacitor-based boost inverter. Performance assessments were executed with resistive and inductive loads. The outcomes of the simulations highlight the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, rendering it highly suitable for single-phase, low-power, and medium-voltage applications.
