SU DO KU Configuration of Solar PV Array Under Partial Shading Condition

Shading over portions of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels can significantly lower their energy output and lead to irregularities in their power- voltage profiles. Such shading can result in substantial power losses, making it imperative to find effective solutions. In this study, we explore alternative electrical interconnection configurations, namely, bridge-linked (BL), honeycomb (HC), and total cross-tied (TCT) configurations, serving as substitutes for the standard series-parallel (SP) connection. Our project introduces a novel approach involving fixed electrical reconfiguration techniques to distribute shading effects evenly across PV modules, thus minimizing energy losses. Specifically, we propose arranging the modules in a total cross-tied (TCT) connected PV array using the principles of the Sudoku puzzle. This innovative arrangement aims to evenly distribute shading impacts throughout the entire array. To assess the efficacy of our method, we performed simulations in MATLAB/Simulink using a 9x9 array. The outcomes indicate that arranging the photovoltaic array modules in a “Su Do Ku” puzzle design enhances their performance in conditions of partial shading. This innovative configuration shows promise for enhancing the efficiency of solar PV systems operating in challenging shading scenarios.
