Impact of Augmented Reality on School Students Learning English

One of the domains where AR is being used increasingly is learning languages. Learning a new language may be challenging, especially for those who are not native speakers. Common traditional instructional methods like textbooks and classroom lectures typically fail to motivate pupils, thus creating monotony and disinterest. With a sample size of 60 students, a pretest posttest experimental study was undertaken in a middle school of West Bengal where English is taught as the second language. The students were randomly and equally assigned to either experimental or control group where Animation supported AR was used to teach a unit in the former and conventional teaching methods in the latter group. By the end of the intervention, on incorporating paired t-test, a significant difference in the post test performance scores between experimental and control group was found. We recommend educational facilities to make use of the didactic potential of AR for boosting students’ learning outcome in English subject.
