Comprehensive Performance Evaluation of UHVDC Lightning Active Protection Scheme Based on Fuzzy Optimal Selection Method

This paper investigates a comprehensive performance evaluation method of active protection schemes for lightning strikes in transmission channel of ultra-high-voltage direct-current (UHVDC) system, to improve the scientificity and efficiency in developing the active protection plans. We first explain the principles and implementations of two active protection technologies including voltage reduction operation and emergency power support. A tri-Ievel performance evaluation index system containing thirteen indicators is then proposed in comprehensively considering the economy, safety and reliability of the protective schemes. The weight of each evaluation index is determined by the improved analytic hierarchy process (IAHP) and the membership grade of each scheme is calculated by utilizing the fuzzy optimization method. Numerical simulation results on the Zhexi±800kV UHVDC system of Sichuan power system are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
