An Optimal Design Method of Metal Filter Element Based on Genetic Algorithm

The stainless steel sintered felt filter element is the key component of the liquid cooling system filter in ship, aviation, aerospace and other fields. The filter can filter most impurities from the fluid medium, reduce the influence of impurities on the equipment liquid cooling system, and improve the reliability of the liquid cooling system. However, there is an opposite relationship between the life of the filter element and the volume weight, which is also the focus of the field of light weight demand such as ships, aviation, aerospace, and so on, there is still no an effective filter element parameter optimization design method. Therefore, this paper presents an optimal design method of the sintered felt filter element of stainless steel based on genetic algorithm. The proposed method takes the maximum allowable size, the maximum allowable mass, the maximum allowable flow resistance, the maximum flow rate, and the requirement of filtration accuracy as the constraint conditions, aiming at maximizing the service life of the filter element. The optimized model is solved by genetic algorithm. Finally, a numerical case is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method.
