Influencing Factors of Blended Learning in Higher Education: A Systematic Literature Review

Blended learning approaches have been increasingly utilized in higher education; more people valued the blended learning as an innovative opportunity for effective learning in the digital area. This research applied systematic literature review to collect the influencing factors of blended learning in higher education from student, teacher and institutional perspectives, attempt to explore the trends, challenges and problems in the academic field. A total of 63 articles published from 2013 to 2023 were identified with the inclusion followed by the systematic literature review process. Result illustrates 59 influencing factors from the perspective of learners in internal student self-related and external aspects, which includes teacher-related, environment, technology and course dimension, 49 factors affecting blended learning from the view of instructors in internal teacher self-related dimension and external aspect, including course, technology and environment, and 19 influencing factors from the institutional perspective in internal and external dimensions are provided. In addition, result indicates that prior studies on blended learning were limited in single perspective, mainly emphasizing students and with few interrelationships analysis. This review thus provides the influencing factors from more comprehensive perspectives and offers the direction for further research priority.
