Technical Feasibility Study of 150 kW Grid-Connected PV System for an Academic Institution in Pakistan

The accurate prediction of solar photovoltaic (PV) system output is crucial for its effective implementation, and PV system simulation software plays a pivotal role in this endeavor. This paper delves into the technical feasibility of a grid-connected PV system, designed to meet the energy needs of Rachna College of Engineering and Technology (RCET) in Gujranwala, Pakistan, using the PVsyst tool. Through an indepth analysis encompassing system configurations, output evaluation, and careful consideration of system losses, this study successfully identifies the optimum size of the PV system. This optimal configuration, comprising 375 PV modules and three grid-connected inverters, promises to ensure a consistent and sustainable electricity supply to RCET throughout the year, with any surplus power being exported to the grid. The research findings further reveal that this optimized solution is projected to generate approximately 189 MWh of electricity annually, and its performance ratio (PR) is 79.3%.
