Design and Simulation of a mm-Wave MIMO Antenna Array for 5G Communications

In this paper, a MIMO-enabled antenna array topology for 5G mobile technology system is outlined. The outlined antenna is consist of four symmetric, slotted E-shaped elements which are positioned in the middle where the substrate is a Rogers RT5880 which has 0.254 mm thickness and loss tangent of 0.0009 and a value of dielectric constant is 2.2, respectively. ). E-shaped slots are inserted into copper atop the substrate's surface. The 37 GHz frequency range, set aside for millimeter-wave uses in 5G communication, is covered by the outlined MIMO antenna structure. With the use of CST software, the proposed antenna's return loss, VSWR, directivity are all calculated. A 1×4 array obtained a return loss of -55.658 dB at 37 GHz, while 1×2 array obtained a return loss of -47.147 dB, and a single element antenna obtained a return loss of -23.477 dB. The reflection coefficient, VSWR, and radiation pattern of the suggested MIMO structure are observed and found to be below the recognized threshold. Results from simulations indicate enhanced antenna performance at the desired frequency, which is acceptable for applications including 5G millimeter-wave technology.
