Mitigation of Power Quality Issues in Power System using Static Synchronous Compensator

In the power system, voltage stability is considered as a performance measurement parameter. So that different types of faults occur in power systems like long duration, short duration faults short-duration there are voltage sag, voltage swell, and voltage interaction. So, to achieve voltage stability STATCOM is used. A 24-volt Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) model to mitigate power quality problems in power systems is presented in this article. Voltage fluctuations and flicker are just a few of the power quality problems that can affect the power system and cause significant financial losses as well as harm to electrical equipment. The STATCOM is an adaptable AC transmission system (FACTS) component that can efficiently control voltage and enhance the system’s power quality. The 24-volt model has a small, affordable design that works well for low-voltage uses. The STATCOM 24-volt model’s effectiveness at reducing problems with power quality in a power system is evaluated in the research. The outcomes of the simulations show that the STATCOM can efficiently control voltage, and reduce flicker, thereby enhancing the system’s total power quality. The findings also demonstrate that the 24-volt model is a practical choice for low-voltage uses, offering an affordable and effective remedy for problems with power quality in power systems.
