Automatic generation control and its impact on long-term voltage and Frequency stability

This paper explores the critical role of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in maintaining and enhancing the long-term voltage and Frequency stability of power systems. Voltage and Frequency stability is a fundamental aspect of power system operation, ensuring the reliable and secure delivery of electricity to consumers. AGC, as an integral part of modern power systems, plays a pivotal role in achieving and maintaining voltage stability by regulating the balance between generation and demand.The primary objective of AGC is to adjust the output of generators in real-time to maintain the system’s frequency within acceptable limits. However, the impact of AGC extends beyond frequency control, influencing voltage levels and ultimately contributing to long-term voltage and frequency stability. This paper delves into the mechanisms through which AGC affects voltage and frequency stability, including its role in reactive power control, load shedding, and optimal generation scheduling. Implement, through computer simulations, an electrical system and analyze the impact of AGC on long-term voltage and frequency stability (AGC-LTVFS). This article choose and implement a test electrical system to carry out computer simulations. Then the behavior of the system is analysed based on the different simulations and the results are compared. It is concluded about the impact of AGC-LTVFS.
