Lightning protection and optimization of lightning protection for plateau mountain wind turbines

In southwest Sichuan, onshore wind power on the plateau is experiencing booming development. However, the diverse climatic zones in this region also bring about extremely changeable weather conditions, which pose challenges to the operation of wind turbines, es-pecially in the study of lightning protection systems, where there are weak links and difficulties. An in-depth analysis is carried out for the structural characteristics of wind turbines, including possible risk factors such as thermal effects, mechanical effects, potential tran-sients, electromagnetic induction, and ground potential strikes caused by lightning strikes. In view of the complex and changeable ex-treme lightning weather on the plateau, the lightning protection strategy of wind turbines is designed, including the external lightning protection design of blades and nacelle, as well as the installation position, method and parameter optimization of the internal lightning protection system of blades and nacelle. At the same time, the grounding system has been carefully considered to minimize the possible impact of lightning strikes to ensure safe operation of the wind turbine. Through this comprehensive lightning protection design, the reliability and safety of wind turbines are improved. This research provides important technical support for the wind power industry to maintain stable operation in the variable plateau lightning environment, and also provides a valuable reference for dealing with light-ning strike challenges in similar environments.
