Firing Patterns Transition and Multistability in an Autapse-Rulkov Model

The synaptic connection weight of neurons is variable, so memristors can be employed to mimic autapses. A discrete neuron model with a memristive synapse is constructed to explore the role of autapse in a single neuron. By numerical measures, complex dynamics behaviors of the neuron model are investigated, including firing pattern transition behaviors, multistability, and hyperchaotic firing behaviors, which have a tight connection to the parameters of the memristor. In addition, the spiking and bursting sequences are acquired on a development board for a digital signal processor (DSP). Finally, experimental results verified the numerical simulations.
