Liquid-Vapor Coexistence of Platinum From Ab Initio Simulation

Platinum (Pt) is a material standard used on Sandia's Z machine. In order to improve the use of Pt as a standard in shock compression experiments, we present the liquid-vapor critical point calculated from density functional theory fit to the general virial EOS. We have also calculated the liquid-vapor phase boundary of Pt, which compares well with experimental data (RS Hixson and MA Winkler. Thermophysical properties of liquid platinum.
