On Modeling of Target Heating by a Kilovolt Electron Beam

The processes of energy loss in a condensed matter due to the target irradiation by a sharply focused electron beam and, as a consequence, heating of the irradiated sample are considered in this paper. It is carried out the considerations for a mathematical model based on the possibility of separate quantitative description of the contribution to energy losses of electrons absorbed in the target and backscattered. The solution of the steady-state heat conduction equation is obtained using the Green's function. It is shown that for heavy elements the dependence of the target superheat on the beam electron energy is nonmonotonic, which can lead to irreversible processes in the materials under study.
