An Assessment of the Feasibility of Creating a Biofuel-Powered CCGT Plant

Research is currently being conducted on combined-cycle power plants (CCGT) fueled by biofuel. Renewable energy sources, such as biofuels, are used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the main performance indicators of an existing CCGT unit when using biofuels as fuel in the combustion chamber. An analysis of a variety of different biofuels, including wood, agricultural waste, and refined biofuels, was conducted. Thermal-hydraulic characteristics and performance indicators were determined by using Boiler Designer software. According to the characteristics obtained, conclusions were drawn regarding the suitability of one or another type of fuel for a particular CCGT unit based on the characteristics obtained.
