Design and Optimization of Novel Laser Reduced Graphene Oxide Sensor for Neural Signal Investigation

In this study, it is developed laser integrated graphene oxide electrodes for detection of neural signals during visual processing. The novelty of this work is fabrication of new laser integrated graphene oxide electrodes for high resolution signal acquisition. Under optimal conditions, the electrode which achieved highest conductivity was used for the further experiments. The electrode surface was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measured the electroactive area of the electrode, which shows that it has a high electroactive surface area. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were recorded in this study using three electrodes placed on Frontal, parietal and Occipital locations while participant was shown three different images. The novel laser integrated graphene oxide electrodes showed different peak amplitude and peak numbers for each image in each participant. The amplitude and peak results showed significant difference in living and non-living objects image. The laser reduced graphene oxide showed promising reproducibility, which indicates its real-life application for neuro-cognitive research.
