Investigation of Compatibility of Fluid Dielectric and Elastomeric Material of Stress-Cone for High Voltage Outdoor Termination

This paper reports and discusses the results of studies of mutual thermal aging of materials of solid elastomeric and liquid insulation of a high-voltage oil-filled cable outdoor termination. The interaction between the two materials was analyzed oil using Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), as well as testing the elastomeric material for mechanical strength. For testing, samples of elastomeric material in special form were made in accordance with GOST 270-75. Mutual thermal aging was carried out for 1000 hours at 100 °C. The FTIR results showed that the composition of the dielectric liquid does not change, which indicates the neutrality of the two materials used. The mechanical properties of elastomeric samples underwent changes due to contact with liquid insulation. Tensile tests showed that the elastomeric material failed at lower loads after aging in silicone oil. This correlates with the result of weighing the samples during aging.
