Cable Lines as Human Health Risk Factor: Power Frequency Magnetic Field Calculation and Measurement

The comparison of measured levels of power frequency (PF) electric and magnetic fields (EF and MF) has been carried out in the places of 110 kV, 220 kV and 500 kV overhead transmission lines (OTL) which have been replaced by cable lines (CL) in the Russian Federation. The results show that MF levels may exceed the existing hygienic standards, thus serving as risk factor for the general public health. In order to avoid this in this paper, it can be considered measurement in the form of laying cables at greater depths, sanitary protection zones organizing as well as increasing security zones (SZ). In places where CLs pass, the risk factor for human health is PF MF. The verification of the results has been made by means of instrumental measurements. The obtained measurement results show a high enough comparability with the calculated data and the necessity of more strict MF control over cable lines to general public protect. Moreover, the outcomes justify the need to expand the boundaries of protection zones, especially over coupling connectors, where the risk of human exposure increases.
