An Algorithm for Automatic Image Segmentation Using the Sobel Method for an Optical Coherence Tomography

The method of optical coherence tomography allows to obtain the most accurate diagnostic data on the condition of the tissues and structures of the eye. At the moment, the software of optical coherence tomographs includes various tools for automatic segmentation of retinal layers. The main disadvantage of such tools is the determination of the boundaries of the retinal layers of the macular region with a large error. In this paper, an algorithm for automatic segmentation of retinal layers based on the Sobel method is proposed. The proposed algorithm has been implemented and tested in the Matlab programming environment and makes it possible to isolate a layer of ganglion cells, a layer of nerve fibers and an internal boundary membrane.
