Development of a Design Methodology for the Placement of Reference Points of the Local Navigation System Using Ultra-Wideband Signals

The development of technology leads to the emergence and spread in practice of local navigation systems (LNS) to obtain the coordinates of the consumer indoors, where there are no signals from global navigation satellite systems. As the most promising and rapidly developing systems at the moment, it is possible to single out LNS implementing a positional navi-gation method. A feature of these systems is the need to deploy and maintain the infrastructure of radio navigation reference points (RP). In the case of indoor navigation, the presence of walls, partitions, equipment, etc. opaque to radio navi-gation signals complicates the task of providing radio navigation coverage of the working area. In general, there is no analytical solution to the optimization problem from the LNS and/or their placement in a room of arbitrary shape. The paper discusses the application of genetic algorithm in this problem, tuning the GA parameters in order to reduce the design time. This paper presents a comparison of the results of the developed algorithm with the results of RP placement by experts intuitively. The comparison showed that the algorithm coped with this task in less time than a human, while with greater accuracy and fewer RPs. Thus, the main advantage of the developed algorithm is that no human work is required.
