A Decision Tree of Bioengineering Study and Career Path for Educational Guidance

In the rapid transformation in the industry workforce era, employment fluctuation has been found in every sector. Especially in advanced science areas such as bioengineering, statistics on fresh graduates' job demands have declined due to mismatched skills with positions. Despite continuing their master's degree in the homeland, more than 40% of graduates like to study abroad to conduct further research [1]. However, it could not guarantee the future competence that is required in domestic firms. That is a cause of bioengineering graduates delayed in their education; furthermore, grievous issues in their career. This study proposed an approach to develop educational guidance based on decision tree analysis. A questionnaire was designed and distributed according to the required attributes comprising nodes derived by collecting employment information of bioengineering graduates from jobs websites. The data were analyzed with the C4.5 algorithm to construct a decision tree. The results of decision tree consign reference on students' study paths matching the most feasible employment in company categories. This study is helpful in developing logical career guidance and a study plan for college students; likewise, the contribution in software engineering to demonstrate techniques applied in education and knowledge management.
