Investigation of Second Order Taylor Series in the Coarse Operator of Parareal Algorithm for Power System Simulation

The objective of this brief is to reduce the computation time of dynamic simulation of power system. A parallel in time method known as Parareal method is modified for faster dynamic simulation. In the Parareal method, the simulation time is partitioned into two distinct subgroups: the fine and coarse operators. Notably, the time step within the coarse sub-interval is remarkably larger than that within the fine sub-intervals. Thus motivated, we investigate the second order term of Taylor series for the coarse operator. Efficacy of the proposed method is shown on detailed power system model. Superiority of the proposed method is shown on IEEE 624 bus power system.
