NewGen: A Blockchain-Based Solution for Future Automotive Electronic Supply Chain Management

The automotive industry adopts digital technologies to automate, streamline, and increase transparency in their manufacturing pipeline. The automotive supply chain has experienced problems with management and product operations due to a lack of security, trust, traceability, and transparency. Blockchain has, by design, the potential and capability to solve these issues since it entails data provenance, proof of ownership, identity, data quality, traceability, and supply chain management. This decentralized approach allows actors to trust the system, manage identities, and trace actions. This paper proposes a blockchain-based solution to enhance traceability and shorten wait times in the automotive supply chain. The Project New Generation Test Systems for Future Automotive Electronics (Newgen) intends to increase traceability in automotive supply chain management, using hyperledger Fabric-based consortium blockchain. This paper proposes the system architecture and explains how the machine’s configuration can be traced and protected.
