NYC CrimeWatch: Crime Analysis Tool

The escalation of hate crimes and the interconnectedness of violence in urban environments like New York City necessitate a comprehensive, data-driven approach for effective law enforcement and public safety measures. This paper addresses the pressing need to understand and tackle the complex dynamics of crime by leveraging Semantic Web Engineering techniques. Utilizing ontologies and RDF, disparate crime data is structured and enriched, enabling comprehensive analysis and comprehension of crime patterns. The paper presents several use cases enabled by the application, including temporal analysis of crime incidents, gender-specific crime trends, racial disparities in shooting incidents, demographic analysis, hate crime insights, and correlation analysis between shooting and hate crime incidents. These features empower stakeholders with critical insights necessary for informed decision-making, resource optimization, and proactive implementation of crime prevention measures.
