GLIMPSE of Future Power Grid Models

Maintaining a secure and resilient power grid relies not only on developing and deploying new energy technologies, but on the ability of a broad set of stakeholders to gain and share insight into the design and structure of the grid. However, the complexity of both the grid itself and tools to model it can make that insight difficult. We present GLIMPSE (Grid Layout Interface for Model Preview and System Exploration), a lightweight data visualization tool for distribution system models. GLIMPSE can be used to explore annotated graphs of standard IEEE models, view summary statistics, and search for and highlight power grid components like generators, loads, and overhead lines. It also supports updating the attributes of model components and exporting those changes to GridLAB-D for simulation and analysis.
