Design and Control of Shunt Active Power Filter for Power Quality Improvements with PV Array

In this paper a shunt active filter with Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) panel is controlled using Fuzzy Logic Controller circuit (FLC), also power for Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is obtained from SPV system through a Sepic converter which works in Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) mode. Power quality problems including harmonic distortion and reactive power consumption have increased as a result of the expanding usage of non-linear loads in electrical power networks Instanta-neous Reactive Power Theory (IRPT) is employed and reference current is generated. Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used to provide the compensating current reference of shunt active filter. The DC-link of the shunt APF is continually maintained by the SPV system for long-term harmonic reduction It is validated using MATLAB-Simulink and the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) was maintained within the permissible standards.
