Enhancement of Power Transfer in Wireless Power Transfer Applications using Active Power Source

Wireless charging technique has widespread usage in modern world. Its applications include electronic gadget and Electric Vehicle (EVs) charging. This paper presents the technique to enhance power transfer capabilities in wireless power transfer applications. The wireless power system consists of a DC supply, full bridge converter, mutual inductor, full-bridge rectifier and a charging load. The paper presents a configuration in which an active power source is introduced on the receiver side of the wireless power transfer system. The paper firstly considers an injection of ideal AC source in quadrature with the transmitted current for enhancement of real power transfer. The quadrature injection ensures net zero real power exchange with the active source. The analogy has been drawn from the concept of static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) used for power enhancement in power transmission lines. Next an injection inverter is used with LC Filter for verification of the power enhancement. The input and output power increases by increasing the injected AC voltage. Results are verified through the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation model. A high sampling frequency simulation is used for realizing high pulse frequency of 50 kHz in main inverter and switching frequency of 500 kHz for active injection inverter.
