An Intelligent Composite Controller for Alleviating Chaotic Oscillations in Power Systems

This paper discusses the alleviation of chaotic oscillations in a power system and its impact on large-scale interconnected power grids. Conventional composite controller method using intelligent techniques is analyzed. A 4

-order model is employed to represent the power system with numerical algorithms capable of identifying chaotic motion in complex mathematical models, investigating catastrophic voltage collapse in chaotic power systems, and possible controllers with intelligent control techniques to extinguish chaos in practical applications. The chaotic system (CSGIB: chaotic single-generator infinite-bus) comprises an alternator parallel to an infinite bus. The chaotic behavior can arise with a certain set of system parameters. The suppression of chaos is done by various intelligent techniquesbased composite controllers in a reasonable time frame. Where the PSO (particle swarm optimization)-based composite controller exhibits the optimal results.
