Performance Analysis of a Modified Three Phase Symmetric Five Level Inverter For Renewable Energy Applications

Worldwide Industrial revolution requires high demand of power which has already kicked off the research on power conversion from renewable sources to conventional grid system. With a view to facilitating this research, Multilevel Inverters (MLI) are futuristic industrial solution. Multilevel inverters represent a pivotal advancement in power electronics technology, transforming the way we generate and control electrical energy. The key objective of the conducted research is to suggest a novel and modified three phase symmetric five level inverter with Low THD and minimum switch count. The proposed topology reduces the number of diodes, capacitors and switches compared to existing MLI topologies. It also demonstrates satisfactory performance in terms of reduced number of switching devices, DC sources, minimum blocking voltage, power rating of the devices and costs. MATLAB/Simulink was used to design and assess dynamic performance of the proposed topology based on variations of dynamic loads for high and medium voltage applications.
