Voltage and Frequency Control of Distributed Generation Using Battery Energy Storage System

Voltage and frequency control of a distributed generation (DG) is a challenge unless it is associated with a synchronous generator. The is because the system lacks inherit inertia because of involvement of converter as an interlinking device between DG and load. A battery energy storage system (BESS) may be utilized to attain the power balance during various switching and power imbalance conditions. This paper presents a DG set with frequency and voltage control utilizing a BESS. Various switching scenarios and power imbalance conditions are created to see the performance of test system. The simulation is done in MATLAB and the test system works well during various switching and power imbalance scenarios. Computer simulations are done in MATLAB.
