Power Management of Novel DC-DC Converter for Microgrids

This paper conceptualizes the power management of a novel DC-DC converter for microgrid application. The novel DC-DC converter is a voltage multiplier based high gain multiport non-isolated converter; with two output ports of different voltage levels. The novel DC-DC converter has a voltage gain of 15 to achieve high gain operation. The output voltage levels at 1500 V & 1385 V are suitable for DC Microgrid, MVDC distribution, EV charging, commercial & industrial DC loads, etc. The converter's operation in different scenarios is analyzed for duty ratio control with steady-state equations and necessary waveforms. A closed loop control of the novel DC-DC converter is proposed to monitor optimal power management of the resources and loads. The main objective is to achieve steady output port voltages during dynamic conditions under the proposed control scheme; which was not achievable with duty ratio control hence, validating results in MATLAB/Simulink are presented.
