Identification of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainee’s personality attributes which impact skills learning

Personality assessments are an indispensable part of successful academic studies and the development of technical skills. In Pakistan, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainees are not obligated to take academic tests, personality assessments, or Career Guidance at the time of admission. They selected a TVET course based on their earlier knowledge, referrals, and word of mouth. Personality mismatch with the learning skills contributes towards low employability and skill shortage problems. Despite massive national and international funding in TVET, Pakistan’s infrastructural projects get delayed because of skill shortages and management problems. This paper evaluates TVET trainees’ personality attributes which impact skills learning. The goal of this study is to explore the correlation between the personality traits of TVET Trainees. We employed six classifiers to evaluate predictions and the Pearson correlation efficient algorithm to measure correlations. Data collection, labeling, and evaluation for this research spanned over two years from one of the largest TVET training providers in Punjab – Pakistan. To carry out our analysis, we followed the Educational Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery standard methodology. The result demonstrated a positive correlation between personality traits of TVET trainees and Random Forest, SVM, Logistic Regression, and Naïve Bayes predicted TVET trainees more than 93% correctly. In the future, this correlation and prediction can be used to enhance this research in course recommendation systems, dropout prediction, and career guidance.
