Audit in the Era of Big Data and Blockchain Technology, What Implications?

The current society is constantly evolving. Today, one of the main trends impacting the world is digitization. Organizations are also affected by waves of digitalization. In order to meet the ever-changing and accelerating customer demand, they must leverage these technologies to adapt their way of working. These technologies will enable them to be more efficient. The purpose of this study is to get a greater comprehension of the technologies that impact the audit profession. The study focused on exploring the effects of big data and blockchain technology on the audit profession via semi-directed interviews with selected auditors from different audit companies. The insights gained from the interviews expanded the understanding of big data and blockchain within the audit field. The study revealed four main themes that were consistent with the participants feedback regarding the impact of big data and blockchain on auditing. These four fields are: 1 devotion to training personnel in new audit software and methodologies, 2 need for IT support to assist technological knowledge gaps among auditors, 3 adoption of specific audit software apart from Excel in organizations, 4 limited experience or early-stage adoption of big data and blockchain in audit firms. The study's findings can be useful for auditors and other collaborators who aim to work with customers that use technologies in their systems.
