Detection of Lane Deviation Violations Using a Digital Camera: An Implementation on the National Way in Vietnam

Vehicle monitoring plays a pivotal role in the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems, especially within the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Over the past decade, numerous methodologies have been proposed to continuously track vehicles, aiming to regulate traffic flow and mitigate the occurrence of traffic accidents. Among these challenges, the detection of lane deviation violations stands out as a highly practical problem, drawing upon modern techniques in the field of traffic management. In this research, we present a novel procedure that leverages the inherent advantages of readily available digital cameras installed on the majority of roads in Vietnam. The proposed implementation was conducted in Tay Ninh Province and yielded promising results, achieving a remarkable lane deviation violations detection rate exceeding 90% on a six-lane highway. Additionally, the method exhibited an impressive accuracy of 95.75 % in identifying four distinct types of vehicles, while effectively tracking 95.36 % of the overall traffic on the road.
